1961 Volvo Duet P210 P-210 Wagon

I first saw my P210 in 1971, Redwood City, California. The engine had been burned up by it’s owner. It was for sale “as is.” They couldn’t even find the key on the day I showed up to buy the car. I found an engine and transmission for sale in the want adds. It was a B18, complete with transmission etc., out of a wrecked 1965, 544 sport. I installed the engine and converted the electrical to 12V. Unfortunately, I missed the Gas gauge, it has never been the same. I have driven this car ever since. From Seattle Washington to San Diego California, East to Barstow, Nevada. I have never run out of gas, never broken down on the road, never had a flat tire. I had a trailer hitch installed in 1974, works fine. I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all my life and, in the 70s, I always stopped for those who had their thumbs out. So if anyone thinks that this is the Volvo that stopped for them, it could be. Life was good in Alameda, Marin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma Counties. But eventually things do break down, so in 1995 I finally had to rebuild the engine, transmission, rear end, brake system, front end, rear/front suspension, new radiator. Generator and starter were “re-wound”, for real, here in Livermore Ca. Everything. The engine was balanced, blue printed. Sounds real cool. What couldn’t be rebuild was replaced, or was that what couldn’t be replaced was rebuilt. It has been a while, but I do have all of the receipts. All work was done locally, in Contra Costa, Alameda County. Thank you Svensson’s Volvo, Richmond Ca. Thank you Gallant Racing, Oakland Ca. Since then the car has spent most of it’s time in the garage. Not a good thing for a car, they really need to be driven. If you look at most of the other Volvos in the slide-show you may notice that my Duett has roll down windows for the rear passengers. Is this a big deal or what? Today I am thinking of doing an off the frame re-build. So if anyone knows of a shop in the USA that has done re-building of a Volvo Duett, please let me know how I can contact them. I can drive this car anywhere in the USA.

If you would like to see this kind of Volvo P210 Duett being used as the hero’s escape vehicle then watch the movie; Smilla’s Sense of Snow.
